Course length: 3 hours

Included:

  • Lifetime access to 3 hours of video recordings
  • A downloadable and printable 26 page PDF practice guide
  • Lifetime email support for questions related to the workshop

Cost: US$70

This 3-part workshop is designed to provide a simple, effective framework for guiding your practice towards supporting optimal wellbeing. As the focus is more on how to practice rather than what to practice, this course is suitable for anyone from complete novice to expert yogi.

This workshop puts into practice findings from recent exercise research that demonstrate that simply exercising as hard as you can does not necessarily confer the greatest health benefits. In fact, pushing as hard as you can in many ways severely limits your ability to create wellbeing. Instead, this course emphasizes one simple thing you can do to increase wellbeing: Learn to enjoy your breath. Emphasizing a free and joyful breath increases mindfulness and skill, and increases your enjoyment of your practice. It also ensures that you don’t simply play to your strengths, thus making your practice smarter than your habits and increasing its positive effects on your wellbeing.

Yoga Anatomy Toolkit is a 3-part course that highlights a few key insights into anatomy and biomechanics whose importance is often overlooked, or simply not understood. This course is not about memorizing names of body parts. It is designed to provide you with an understanding of a few key anatomical concepts and how to apply them to real-world movement challenges in order to solve them effectively. The aim is for you to learn how to create better movement through a better understanding of how movement actually works. This is a real challenge because how movement works is quite different from how we instinctively think it works.

The True Joy of Flying

Arm Balances, Biomechanics, Mindfulness, and Joy

Course length: 3 hours

Included:

  • Lifetime access to 3 hours of video recordings
  • A downloadable and printable 25 page PDF practice guide
  • Lifetime email support for questions related to the workshop

Cost: US$75

What do you think arm balances are about? Getting your feet off the floor? Facing your fears? Improving upper body strength and balance?

All these are good reasons to practice arm balances, but there is an even better one: learning how not to get stressed out when stressful things are happening.

Arm balances are challenging enough that  most everyone instinctively tenses the back of their neck to better deal with the difficulty. Tensing your neck does make you stronger because it triggers the stress response, but being stressed out also disrupts mindfulness and joy. Lastly, tensing the back of the neck can also prevent good biomechanics and increase your risk of injury in arm balances. So learning how to disrupt the stress response in arm balances is not just a great mindfulness exercise, it can actually make the poses easier because you can approach them more intelligently.

In this workshop we will learn how to use arm balances as a laboratory to learn how to disrupt the stress response, create better biomechanics, and increase our capacity for joy.

Which Workshop is Best for Me?

All three workshops stand on their own and can be taken independently, though they mutually reinforce each other. The Biomechanics of Wellbeing workshop is the most approachable and pragmatic. The Yoga Anatomy Toolkit workshop delves deeper into background theory. The True Joy of Flying applies my yoga philosophy to challenging poses so you can practice not get stressed out even when stressful things are happening.

The Biomechanics of Wellbeing workshop is designed for everyone who wants to improve their wellbeing. It focuses very pragmatically on how to practice yoga in order to get the most out of your practice. It also covers how to fine-tune your practice for your specific needs, teaching you how to avoid the trap of simply reinforcing what you are already good at.

The Yoga Anatomy Toolkit workshop comprises a detailed exploration of the anatomical and biomechanical concepts that form the foundation for my approach to yoga. If you are a yoga teacher, or you just like to know not just how to do something, but why, you may want to explore this workshop.

The True Joy of Flying is designed to teach you how to use a physically challenging asana practice as a powerful mindfulness tool. When you do, you may find that your arm balances practice actually becomes more effortless and joyful when you shift your focus from achievement to simply enjoying each moment in time.
