Your Yoga Wisdom Toolkit:
How an Understanding of Movement Science and Yoga Philosophy can Help You Transform Your Yoga Practice (and Your Life)
Workshop Description:
Have you been wondering why you have a pain in your shoulder that isn’t going away? Why you have so much neck tension? Why some yoga poses, like Chaturanga or Dhanurasana, still seem difficult and/or unpleasant even after years of practice?
Your Yoga Wisdom Toolkit highlights a few key insights from anatomy, biomechanics, evolution, and neuroscience that have the power to revolutionize your yoga through a better understanding of how movement actually works. This is a true challenge because how movement works is quite different from how we instinctively think it works.
Interestingly, this discrepancy between how we think movement works and how it really works mirrors insights from non-dual yogic and Buddhist philosophy about the causes of suffering and our propensity for misperceiving reality. This workshop integrates knowledge from science and philosophy to make your movement practice not only more effective and safer from a physical standpoint, but to turn it into a mindfulness practice that aligns your daily actions with the teachings of non-dual philosophy.
This workshop focuses on concepts whose significance is often overlooked, or simply not understood. This course is not about memorizing names of bones and muscles. Instead it is designed to help you understand a few key scientific and philosophical concepts and how to apply them to real-world movement challenges to improve your physical and psychological wellbeing.
This workshop is for anyone who is curious about movement science and non-dual philosophy and how they can help us get more out of our yoga practice and our lives. While a few of the concepts are somewhat technical, they are all presented in an experiential context. With every concept, I make clear why it matters. I also explain how to apply each concept in a way that dramatically increases the benefits of your practice, physically and mentally, combined with a practice session that lets you experience the concept in action.
The workshop includes a pdf practice guide with detailed written and photographic instructions for all the exercises covered in the course. This will allow you to review and continue practicing the course content on your own.
